Which artists have the most tracks on the shelves?
Counted by the main artist of each track: Armin van Buuren (105), Queen (100), Muse (93), Prince (79) and Madonna (76). The artist page shows each artist's albums, members, sound and Dutch Top 40 hits.
What does the sound of a track mean?
The sound comes from an acoustic analysis of the recording itself, not from genres or opinions. Tempo is the number of beats per minute (bpm). Energy measures how intense and driving a track sounds, from its loudness, timbre and how quickly the onsets follow each other: a quiet ballad sits low, a hard rock track high. Mood is the musical positiveness, derived from key, major or minor and timbre: low sounds sombre or subdued, high cheerful and upbeat. Danceable weighs the tempo, the stability and regularity of the rhythm and the strength of the beat: high is a tight, driving groove. Acoustic says how much of the sound comes from acoustic instruments and voices as opposed to electronic and amplified sounds. The key is the root note with major or minor; it is shown only when the analysis is confident enough. The same features drive the playlist Time to Play, which puts tracks in order by sound. On average the shelves sound at 122 bpm, with an energy of 38%, a mood of 63%, 47% danceable and 85% acoustic, measured over 6,636 analysed tracks.
Are the Dutch Top 40 records without an album in here too?
No: only the tracks from the albums in the collection are here. A record from the Dutch Top 40 that is not on one of those albums does have a track page of its own, found through the weekly charts and the artists under Dutch Top 40.
How do you find a track?
Type a title, artist or album in the search field on this page: the matches from all tracks appear as a table under the field. Or pick the initial of the artist; a name with an article sits under two initials (The Beatles under T and under B), and a track with more than one artist under the initial of each of them, guests included. Or pick a decade of release (the 80s), on its own or together with an initial. Within such a page the search field filters straight away and a click on a column header sorts (another click reverses the order). The search field in the top bar also finds albums and artists.
