About emno.nl
emno.nl is a personal record collection online. It is a hobby of someone who has been building websites and databases since 2002, with music on all day.
How the site came about
Anyone who plays music through the whole working day gets to know a lot of albums. That interest grew into a music catalogue, and a tidy catalogue asks for a database. That database is the basis of everything here: the albums with their track list per vinyl side, the artists and their members, the Time to Play playlist and every Dutch Top 40 since 1965.
A hobby, not a business
The site has no commercial purpose. There are no ads, it is not promoted anywhere and it is not a shop window for services. Whoever ends up here came through a search engine or out of curiosity.
A sandbox anyone may look into
Building websites is the day job; this site is the private sandbox. Because nothing depends on it, there is room to try out techniques that have no place in regular work, and to rebuild something when that makes it better. The music is the reason it started; the building is at least half the fun. Everyone is welcome to look around: there may be something fun or useful in it.
Data, not opinions
Everything on the site comes from data: what is on an album, who played on it, when it came out and how high a record climbed in the Top 40. There are no reviews and no best-of rankings. The music itself plays through Spotify; what that means for your data is on the privacy page.
Where the data comes from
The albums, covers and track lists come from Spotify and Discogs and have been checked by hand per album. The data on artists and their members comes from MusicBrainz and Discogs. The charts come from top40.nl, the official site of the Dutch Top 40.
