What this site keeps about you
emno.nl is a personal record collection online: albums, artists and the Dutch Top 40. What happens to your data when you look around here is set out briefly on this page.
What the site records
The site counts how many people visit and which albums, artists, search terms and tracks are most popular. With every page you open, the page, the kind of device, your IP address, your browser and the site you came from are recorded. The IP address, browser and origin are erased after thirty days. The counts are kept for two years, together with the page title, the search term of a search and the name of a track you play. The data stays on the site's own server and is not shared with anyone.
Music from Spotify
An album, a track, a Dutch Top 40 record or the playlist plays in the player at the bottom. The first time, the player asks for your permission, because Spotify sets cookies and sees your IP address. If you are signed in to Spotify, Spotify can link the playback to your account. Without permission the Spotify player is not loaded. Album covers, photos and video stills always come through this site's own image cache, so Spotify and YouTube do not see your visit for those. Your choice is kept in your browser for a year. Concert videos from YouTube
An artist page may show concert videos. A clip plays in a window on the page. The first time, the window asks for your permission, and only then does the video load, through youtube-nocookie.com: the YouTube variant that sets no cookies until you start the video. At that moment Google does see your IP address. Your choice is kept in your browser for a year. With "Allow all" you give permission for YouTube and Spotify in one go. See Google's privacy policy.
What your browser remembers
A cookie for your language (for a year). Your browser's local storage (localStorage, not a cookie) holds your choice for Spotify and YouTube (for a year), how the albums on the home page are sorted, the play order of the Dutch Top 40 and the last Dutch Top 40 week you viewed. During a visit it also briefly remembers which card to return to when you go back to an overview (sessionStorage, gone when you close the tab). All of this stays on your own device and is not sent to the server. The site itself sets nothing else.
Server log
The hosting provider keeps a technical log with IP address, time, requested page and browser, to detect outages and abuse. It is deleted automatically after a limited period.
Your rights
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) you have the right to access, correct and delete your data. If you cannot resolve an issue, you can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority.
